    Neat! I know I'm late to the party here, But if you see this, I have one little question: How do you receive AM/FM radio now that the head unit is gone? Granted AM is dodgy at best with all the interference from LED lighting modules and other RF pollution. FM is all but useless anymore with every station playing the same 10 songs on endless loop and Beavis & Butthead morning show "DJ's" endlessly puking about "Yunts Stillrz nat!" every 15 seconds. (I live in Pittsburgh area of PA. It's sickeningly inescapable) There are still one or two radio stations worth tuning in though. I would like to do something similar, but NOT have to Hotspot the tablet through my phone to use Iheart radio to get AM/ Fm radio. So how (if) did you overcome this? I wonder if there are is any kind of AM/FM dongle to add radio ability to a tablet. Lastly, I would use the wired audio from the tablets headphone jack, as well as a music player app like AIMP that can play flac files. Bluetooth can be laggy and is lossy, on top of the bit-crunching that MP3 and other lossy music compression formats do. AIMP works with Windows, Android and crApple-phones, and has tons of UI skins to choose from for a custom look. Wired audio connections, and lossless formats are the way to go.

    • @edwardlthompson
      @edwardlthompson 5 місяців тому

      I love how well you worded this question and explained your situation. As far as radio goes, some older Android devices have built in FM tuners but I believe the best route is getting a cellular enabled tablet and going the iHeart Radio route if you must hear your local DJs and advertising. I go into this a little deeper in my follow up video where I show the tablet I moved to and a better look at the wiring and setup. It was in its "final form" at that point. You can find the recommended video at the end of this one.

    • @edwardlthompson
      @edwardlthompson 5 місяців тому

      Also, I used a wired connection for the audio and you always have the ability to download music to play off of the device without having to stream them. The offline play uses less resources and works anywhere, saving your data plan and preventing throttling.

    this is so fucking confusing, was with you until the troubleshooting and install portion lol. If I connected to the car's speakers through bluetooth, then surely the only concern is power. Which means I wouldn't have to use an amp. To put it simply, what would I need to get/connect to make sure my tablet is receiving constant power? I know I can just plug the charging cable into one of those cigarette lighter adapters, but I want that port to be free for other things. So I'd like to wire it internally. I wouldn't mind doing it with an amp, but I think I'd need a wiring diagram to get a better understanding.

    • @edwardlthompson
      @edwardlthompson 9 місяців тому

      Without an amp, the volume will be so low that you may not be able to hear it at all. It needs to be amplified. You can certainly charge your tablet from the cigarette lighter adapter but I chose to try and hide all those wires by routing it internally. That part is optional. You can check out my suggested update video at the end of this one where I show the final form and wiring in better detail and some upgrades I made along the way.

    This is not meant to be a put-down at all, just some suggestions. I would add a battle belt to your set up, its a massive help in so many ways. You can move your pistol and your dump pouch onto it. It will increase your speed in every way. If you struggle to dump a mag, you are wasting time. If your mags have to clear your sidearm when you pull them, you are wasting time. If you have to crane your arm in an uncomfortable way to pull your side arm, or your rifle needs to me moved BEFORE you draw it... you are wasting time. You should be able to sling your rifle at the exact same time you are drawing that pistol. I hope this helps!

    • @edwardlthompson
      @edwardlthompson 10 місяців тому

      Absolutely that helps. I really appreciate your comment and advice. Since I already have my hands on the rifle at chest level, I think I may find it easier to swap to my sidearm if necessary. @@edwardlthompson I usually nestle my radio between my arm and my mag line on my plate carrier/chest rig on my non dominate side. It allows for the best routing of cables. Also consider placing your dump pouch at your hip instead of the direct back.

      @@wepunchdragons3733 keep being awesome my friend and thanks for the support. There is a lot of crossover between those sports and it is a relatively niche sport and we are a niche inside a niche. 😂 I'm the same and have love for it all. I've spent WAY too much time consuming everything paintball and airsoft on UA-cam. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Very helpful, picked up some King Ranch seats. Missing that floor pan I see right off the bat, and the pins that hold the 2 seats together. Off to the dealer and the EBay’s……thanks!!!!

    Before seeing any video like this, I had bought a rather cheap ended, head unit, using Android 11 or so. Low resolution, needed adapters that weren't included (of course), and didn't fit like it said it would in my Volvo. Thinking of other ideas, I remembered that I had a Samsung A7 tab laying around in a ca binet and downloaded carplay onto it and well, I now have a head unit. Stuck the old magnets onto the tab from where I mounted my phone and it's holding well with a bit of alien tape. I wasn't sure if this would work, but it is. Your video just gave me a few more ideas for later on, well done!
